Spring + Anise Cakes

throw back to cats in argentina + the light there!! / this little girl, an orphan - in 2005 i was working in an office knowing full well it would never be my path - as i sat at my desk reading the paper, i cut her picture out and hung it in my office. "i will travel to orphanages and help babies and children" : this has been with me since before i could speak - 12 years since the photo i've been brought back to this one thing that's been consistent - and we will be visiting an orphanage in May while in Croatia. so so thankful. / eggs from the farm last summer. / baby chicks! they grow insanely fast. almost coop building time! / homemade challah bread. / bulbs of field garlic found in the woods. / simmering cherry sauce. / this is veronica! / laying in the grass in argentina. at peace. country life is the same everywhere. / beading away with coffee + palo santo. / tapping trees for maple syrup. not sure we found the correct trees. haha, it's our first time, so we shall see! / kitchen light. / woodland walks. / small mood board. follow stickymango for one that's never-ending. / there were a thousand birds singing in our yard.

bits and pieces. hope you are well and looking forward to spring & summer.
thank you for reading ~ leaving you with a recipe for anise cakes. siesta is tradition in south america and i loved it! when we woke we always had a little snack while cooking dinner and these quaint little cakes had just the right amount of flavor and texture.

~ Anise Cakes ~
1 c. anise seeds
1 c. olive oil
1 c . sweet dessert wine
8 c. self-rising flour
1 c. sugar

Heat olive oil, add anise seeds and toast. After, combine sugar, seeds, and wine to the flour so it becomes a dough. Roll into balls and flatten with fingers. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes. Sprinkle with sugar and enjoy with coffee ~
